STOCK MARKET RATING … 3.5 (0-4 bearish, 5 neutral, 6-10 bullish). I do not foresee a financial crisis, at this time, but, one has to wonder, are bad commercial real estate loans - commercial real estate is already in a recession – going to precipitate the next banking event?
Not much to say this week. The big news comes tomorrow afternoon with the release of the March inflation numbers. If you understand the inflation calculation, recognize that inflation comes down slowly. Why? Each month one number is added and one number is dropped, so 10 months of data remains unchanged, and the mass of the ten unchanged months outweighs the impact of the two new months. And, it’s the annual number that must get down to 2%, or the monthly rates of increase must show 2% for three consecutive months, to give the Fed confidence that inflation is running at a 2% rate.
Just a short note on my investment philosophy --- I don’t try to PREDICT the FUTURE trends; I try to ADJUST RISK to the CURRENT trends. That’s a significant difference.
Now, just a few random thoughts …
Here’s an interesting comment from Charlie Munger --- The world is not driven by greed; it is driven by envy. It’s why God came to Moses and told him to tell us that we should not envy (covet) our neighbor’s house, etc.
From Merriam Webster Dictionary --- covet. Verb: to wish for greatly or with envy. Examples: covet another's success or covet a friend's possessions. Produces: a strong envious wish, desire or aim for what belongs to another, which comes from feelings of longing or lack.
Thought --- if only these processes produced a universal response to either seek self-improvement and/or to work harder for what you want or what you feel you need. If only!
