INVESTMENT INSIGHTS by Robert Holman, CFA CFP®
STOCK MARKET RATING (THE BIG PICTURE) …
Bullish/Bearish Rating: 6.5 = bullish (1 - 4 is bearish, 5 is neutral, 5 - 9 is bullish).
Market/Economic Condition: Normal market, economic data improving
Outlook: Expecting slow improvement
While the market has reached lofty levels, I believe it can continue higher—until something changes. In other words, the market may keep rising until an event causes many investors to pause and reconsider their positions and expectations. Some have already stepped aside, believing the market is due for a decline. Will the end of hostilities between the US and Iran give rise to this type of thinking? Who knows, but that is certainly a possibility. But for many, it will make them even more bullish.
The economy looks unimpressive ---- over the last month, the economic picture has been mixed to negative, as CPI inflation jumped up and PPI inflation surged; retail sales fell sharply although e*retailing sales increased; housing starts declined, but building permits increased; consumer sentiment continues to slip; and overall employment data declined, yet job openings are the highest in two years; just to name a few.
