STOCK MARKET RATING (THE BIG PICTURE) …
Bullish/Bearish Rating: 5 = neutral (1 - 4 is bearish, 5 is neutral, 5 - 9 is bullish).
Market/Economic Condition: Normal market, approaching a peaking economy
Outlook: Selectively reinvesting sidelined cash, guarded and wary
Again, I don’t feel that much of anything has changed. Here’s why.
The Supreme Court decision that struck down use of emergency powers to levy Tariffs is significant. However, the President has other tariff powers. He has already levied a 15% universal emergency tariff that will last for only 150 days. Once he exercises other Presidential tariff powers, further litigation is to be expected, of course. This process will take some time to work itself out.
The economy is growing, although in the Fourth Quarter, real GDP growth slowed, down from 4.4% to 1.4%. The Consumer Confidence Expectations Index rose to 72.0 from 67.2; however, that was the thirteenth straight reading below 80, which is a level that typically signals recession ahead.
My market rating remains at neutral (5.0) – neither bullish nor bearish, and my outlook remains guarded. The market is functioning normally; however, a bit of hyper reactivity is present as most financial news results in a dramatic impact on stock prices.
