STOCK MARKET RATING … 5.0 (0-4 bearish, 5 neutral, 6-10 bullish), no change from last week. This rating is an assessment of both current and likely future market conditions.
I was unable to publish this report yesterday. It was an incredibly busy day for me that ended at 8:45 p.m. So, here are my thoughts from Monday evening and today.
Both bullish and bearish indicators of the likely course of future stock prices are present, hence the overall neutral rating until conditions clarify the most likely course of events. So, there is no reason to get overly excited or overly reactive about any particular bullish or bearish day.
I heard one respected portfolio manager comment on how sick she was of talking about the Fed. She noted that almost everything about inflation, future interest rates and Fed policy is already widely known and that it has been discussed ad nauseum. This is a curious and interesting recent development. Such frustration may in-fact be another signal of an upcoming period of change.
The market has been up 7 of the last 8 weeks. This week is likely to turn out to be a down week.
However, I’m not willing to call this a bottom, although it may turn out to be. I’m staying at neutral for the time being. While there is a lot of negative news still to come, there is positive news coming too, and the market always moves in advance of actual events.
