12:00 TUESDAY – Weekly Stock Market Report #217 – 7/25/23

by Robert Holman |

WEEKLY STOCK MARKET REPORT AND RATING … 5.0 (1-4 bearish, 5 neutral, 6-9 bullish). No change – let’s hear what the Fed has to say before we change ratings.

There is a strong case now for a bull market (examples include: the Fed is finishing up interest rate hikes, employment and profits are strong, etc.), yet it would not take much to derail things (examples include: inflation proves to be more stick than anticipated, possible additional rate hikes by the Fed, corporate earnings begin to slip, deeper recession, etc.)

Things will play out soon enough and my ratings will be adjusted accordingly.

I have added to equity positions recently – one of those positions is down (1%) but others are up nicely. Also, existing holdings are rallying back to previous levels, and some of those have turned into long-term capital gains.

This just seems to be a time of patience, collect dividends, let new capital employed grow, and let older positions return to prior valuations. At times this is difficult, but that’s the way it is. Some stocks, for example Microsoft, are so highly overvalued that one has to wonder.

PORTFOLIOS After reading this report, if you are unsure how to position your portfolio to take advantage of these conditions, call me to discuss your circumstances. I’ll do a complimentary portfolio evaluation, and I’ll explain what ought to be done to improve your situation. TO MY CLIENTS … THANK YOU FOR YOUR TRUST. We’ve had great success since we started this RIA in mid-2018 and are doing better than the market return since that time period.
