STOCK MARKET RATING (THE BIG PICTURE) … 6.0 BUT EXPECT A POSSIBLE DIP OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS (1 - 4 is bearish, 5 is neutral, 6 - 9 is bullish). I’ve lowered my overall rating to 6.0 because recent economic news was unfavorable to economic growth, even though the Fed may react by lowering interest rates.
THE ECONOMY SO FAR
While the Second Quarter GDP estimate increased from 3.0% to 3.3% real growth, that information is backward looking. The employment numbers for July were terrible, and prior month numbers were revised downward by 700K jobs. Many market observers believe the Fed MUST lower interest rates. Also, CPI is up, PPI is way up, and housing is slowing. Sales to earnings ratios are unusually high, and most would think earnings ratios are not far behind, indicating overvalued prices and a possible precautionary pullback. These negative factors have disturbed the forward momentum.
However, interest rates will probably be heading down, another favorable factor on top of last quarter's growth numbers. So, it may take a while for the market to slow down.
THE MAIN TREND
I expect the markets to rollover, after a brief favorable reaction to rising interest rates.
