EQUITY MARKET RATING … 3.0 (0-4 bearish, 5.0 neutral, 6-10 bullish) … At this point with Russia moving troops into Ukraine, it is appropriate to lower our rating one notch to 3.0 on expectations for a military confrontation between Russia and Ukraine coupled with an economic confrontation between Russia and the US and its united nations.
EQUITY MARKET and the ECONOMY …At this point a massive invasion of the Ukraine by Russia seems likely. Today, the US is expected to announce sanctions against Russia. The most likely impact on the US markets would be a selloff for about a week or so, then a recover by the market to the former pre-invasion numbers over about a 4-week period. But, it’s hard to see Putin backing off and not invading the Ukraine – he essentially denies their right to exist as an independent nation separate from mother Russia.
