STOCK MARKET RATING … 5.0 (0-4 bearish, 5 neutral, 6-10 bullish.) The market seems to be moving up in reaction to, and in anticipation of, upcoming good news on inflation and Fed interest rate hikes.
Inflation looks like it is moderating, and on Wednesday the Fed may pause its series of interest rate hikes to see if inflation will continue abating. Today, the Nikkei topped its old high of 33,000 for the first time in over 30 years! Also, our own S&P 500 has broken above certain moving averages that indicate a new bull leg may be starting. Therefore, I’m moving toward a less bearish assessment, and I am in fact neutral as to what happens from here.
Already, the tech stocks and the S&P 500 have recovered much of their losses from last year. Many investors are cautious about committing more capital at this time. The widely discussed recession that most had been expecting looks like it will not happen.
Investors should expect continued volatility for a while, as we wait-out upcoming economic data releases before making new commitments.
